iPhone 7 Leaked Spec “Confirms” Lack of Headphone Jack

Well it was a good run headphone jack.

It looks like we will be saying goodbye to the oldest standard for smartphones as a recent design spec document “confirms” that the latest iPhone will not include the 3.5mm headphone jack.

Japanese magazine Mac Fan have released schematics of the 5.5 “iPhone 7 Pro”. The “Pro” is expected to be added to the flagships phone line along with the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

Phone case leaks for the upcoming smartphone suggested that the phone would remain cosmetically unchanged except the removal of headphone jack in order to make the device thinner.

There was also speculation that a second speaker would replace the removed headphone jack, but as you can see that area has been left bare. That seems a little strange in my opinion. An additional speaker would do nothing but enhance the capabilities of the device.

Additional interesting bits that you can gather from the schematics are the larger camera which may suggest a dual lens camera being added to the “Pro” edition. Time will tell if that’s something the cheaper models of the iPhone 7 will also include that as well.

Also looking closer to the base of the phone you can see three small dots, not unlike the Smart Connector included on the iPad Pro models. This could open up the phone to accessories such as a Smart Keyboard for the iPhone.

There is still a fair amount of time until the unveiling of Apple’s next smartphone, with June comes Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). We will have to wait until then to gather final details around the next steps for the company. Hopefully this next device will help Apple regain some of its momentum after a period of slight stagnation.
